'A quiet publishing revolution': The Herald

E-book
conditions of sale

At Two Ravens Press we believe that e-books can have many advantages for readers, authors and publishers. We would like to see them reasonably priced and convenient to use. This is the basis on which we sell e-books direct from our website.

We have not bound our e-books so tightly in security measures that they are inaccessible to all but the computer-fluent, or in a way that means that you can't take your e-book with you if you buy a new or different machine. (In other words, if you speak the e-book technical lingo, they are DRM-free if purchased from this website only.) So we need purchasers to agree to use them responsibly – and to agree to the following conditions of purchase:

  • The e-book is for the personal use of the purchaser only and may not be re-sold, lent or publically displayed in any way.
  • The e-book may not be reproduced or distributed by any means which gives public access to the e-book or any of its contents.
  • The e-book may only be copied for storage, back-
up and for display on the various reading devices which the purchaser uses to access e-books for his
    or her own use.

To ensure fair play in the use
of our e-books we have individually numbered each copy. We have also made certain other distinguishing marks in the text which will allow us to track any copies which have been used to violate the conditions of purchase. Because each copy sold is unique, we are unable to offer an 'instant download' service. Instead, we will e-mail each unique numbered copy of the e-book to a customer’s personal e-mail address after receiving payment by Paypal, cheque or cash. You will almost always receive your e-book within 24 hours of purchase, and if ordered during the course of a business day (UK time), usually within an hour or two.

We will not refund the purchase price of e-books unless it can be shown that our files are defective.

The prices shown are inclusive of VAT, which is payable on e-books (but not on printed books).

E-books

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL THE E-BOOKS PURCHASED FROM THIS SITE ARE AVAILABLE IN E-PUB FORMAT (FOR THE SONY E-READER, the iPHONE/ iPAD/ iPOD, OR ADOBE DIGITAL EDITIONS ON YOUR PC) AND IN MOBI FORMAT (FOR THE KINDLE OR A KINDLE APP ON YOUR i-PHONE OR iPAD). See below for instructions on making the correct selection.

If you don't have an e-book reader you can download Adobe Digital Editions free of charge from the Adobe website by clicking on the following link; this will enable you to read e-books in the e-pub format on your computer: http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/#fp

You can also download Kindle apps from Amazon that enable you to read Kindle e-books without a Kindle e-reader:

You can also buy our e-books as instantly downloadable Kindle e-books from Amazon, at around half the cover price of the printed book (but usually a bit more expensive than if you buy them direct from here). All books are available from Amazon.co.uk and other European Amazon stores; books will only be available from Amazon.com if we own the territorial rights to sell it in the USA.

How to load your e-books onto Kindles and iThings

How to transfer to your Kindle

You can send e-books to your Kindle either by USB transfer or by email.

1. To carry out a USB transfer, connect your Kindle to your computer. Your Kindle should appear in the same place any USB drive or other removable device would (for example, on 'Computer' on a Windows PC). Transfer your e-books to your Kindle by dragging and dropping the .prc files from your computer into the 'documents' folder of your Kindle.

2. Email the .prc files to your Kindle email address, which looks something like 'yourusername@kindle.com' (please note that you need to have authorised the email address from which you are emailing the ebook, which is usually the email address associated with your Amazon account - if you're using another email address you'll need to manage the details of your Kindle account at the Amazon website).

How to transfer to iBooks for iPad / iPhone / iPod

As with everything else iRelated, you need to get your e-books into iTunes before you can use them. Open iTunes on your computer, then click File > Add to Library and select the .epub files. You should now see your e-books in the 'Books' section of your iTunes library.

To get the books from here to your iPhone, iPad or iPod, connect the device to your computer, select it in iTunes, and look for the 'Books' tab at the top of the window. Make sure 'Sync Books' is ticked. You can choose between 'Sync All Book's, which automatically copies all your e-books to the device; or 'Sync Selected Books', which only copies the books you tick. Then all you need to do is sync your device, disconnect and open iBooks.

How to buy

If you click on the title of any of the books listed below, the information page for each book will open in a new window. There you'll find extracts, reviews and much more.

Please click on the appropriate PayPal buttonbelow to purchase an e-book. Please use the drop-down menu to specify which version you'd like: either e-pub or Kindle (Mobi). We will then email the e-book to the address on your PayPal account (if you would like it send to another email address please tell us which in the 'instructions to merchant' box on the PayPal form).

Please note that by purchasing our e-books you agree to the conditions of sale printed on the left.

Please note that Miss Thing is available only in e-pub format. This is because it relies heavily on typography to differentiate voice in the text, and the Kindle unfortunately only offers one font. We believe that the book would be undecipherable without the font information.
